(14 September 2007)The creators of Where I’ve Been, one of the most popular travel-based applications on social networking site Facebook, have developed a similar tool for the MySpace platform. The application allows users to plot locations they have visited or would like to visit on an interactive map.Where I’ve Been launched on Facebook in June this year and currently has 2.6 million users, around 6% of the total membership and more than double that that of the similar TripAdvisor-built map tool. The creators have consistently denied reports which appeared in August saying TripAdvisor had bought the company for $3m.The MySpace version of Where I’ve Been will have the same functionality and allow users to place the map on their homepages.MySpace currently has around 70 million member pages.Chief strategic officer Brian Harniman said: “We’re encouraged by the fast adoption of our application as it serves a need for community building and travel exploration and is attractive to partners who are targeting the wide universe of travel customers.”
