Tuesday, 24 June 2008: Hyatt Hotels and Resorts will join the throngs of hotel companies reaching for the stars with the development of their latest Park Hyatt, which will sit atop Shanghais towering World Financial Centre.
Set to open in late 2008, the hotel was introduced to attendants of the recent Asia Luxury Travel Show 9ALTS) held in Shanghai. Spanning the 79th to 93rd floors of the SWFC tower, guests will enjoy staggering views from their perch atop the 492m skyscraper.
This is an extremely important and exciting development for Hyatt as a family and for the Park Hyatt brand in particular, said Wilson Lee, Director of Marketing Asia-Pacific. With the launch of this new hotel, park Hyatts presence in one of the worlds new financial and business centres will be assured.
At 101 stories, the tower, which is situated in the Lujiazui business district of Pudong, will be one of the tallest buildings in the world and will make the Park Hyatt Shanghai the worlds tallest hotel until the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong reopens in its new tower block in Kowloon in 2010.
Famed New York designer Tony Chi will be responsible for creating the hotels interiors, which, despite the lavish nature of its skyscraper surrounds, will be an intimate hotel themes on contemporary Chinese geometry and architecture. The crown will be the hotels two bars on the 92nd floor, a western themed bar on the West side and a Chinese themed bar on the East side.
With only 174 guest rooms, the Park Hyatt Shanghai will continue the luxurious intimacy well known in its other properties, including that of Park Hyatt Sydney.
China is a fundamental destination for our development, said Sandy Liu, Director of Marketing Communications for Park Hyatt. She pointed out that the Park Hyatt Shanghai will be the second Park Hyatt hotel in China, following the Beijing property which opens this year. There are currently 24 properties in the brands collection.
